Greening of Downtown
On September 17, 2009, the Mayor and Council of the Town of Fountain Hills
approved the Downtown Fountain Hills Vision Plan. This plan was prepared
by Swaback Partners, an urban designing firm, in cooperation with the
Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Fountain Hills. The
Greening of Downtown is one of the components of this vision plan.
The Greening of Downtown volunteer committee was formed in December
2009 and began the first step towards implementing that vision.
As of July 2011, over $125,000 has been raised in donations and in-kind
services.
Improvements that have been implemented between the Fall of 2010 and the
Spring of 2011 include:
Veteran's Memorial Bench landscaping
94 Trees planted in the Park
3 Commemorative Columns
2 Gardens
2 Island Enhancements
Scheduled Improvements for the Fall of 2011 include:
Event Area Landscaping
New Sidewalk Shade Trees
Duck Island Enhancement
Park Bench Landscaping
Commemorative Column Landscaping
Landscaping of the Centennial Circle at the Community Center
Downtown Vacant Lot Demonstration Project
The Downtown Vacant Lot Demonstration Project will entail temporary
landscaping placed on downtown vacant lots to encourage pedestrian
traffic and beautification on the Avenue of the Fountains. This demonstration
project will serve as an example of how the community can help enhance the
downtown vacant lot issue. This is an extensive cooperative effort between
the private lot owners, Plat 208 POA, Chaparral Water Co., and the Fountain
Hills Cultural & Civic Associaition.
The Greening Project is funded by Private Donations. By giving today, you
have the opportunity to help beautify our downtown area for the future and
bring new vitality to our core business and entertainment district.
The Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association is serving as the 501c3
non-profit collector of funds to promote the “Greening of Downtown”.
All future improvements are dependent upon donations received. Please
consider purchasing a Commemorative Leaf to be placed on the columns in
Fountain Park in recognition of a friend, an event, a loved one, or any other
special occasion.
